Almaty to host 1st in the CIS professional bicycle race under the auspices of UCI

The meeting was attended by Mayor of Almaty Akhmetzhan Yesimov, the Commissioner of the International Cycling Federation, Steve Johnson, vice president of the Cycling Federation of Kazakhstan Allen Chayzhunusov and Olympic champion Alexander Vinokourov.

As the mayor noted, Almaty has everything one needs for the competition, that is of high international level. "Holding the first in the CIS international cycling in our city is a momentous event for Almaty. We are now actively preparing for this major event, " said A.Esimov.

At present, the city budget has allocated funds for a bike tour, a race route has been designed , works are continuing connected with the preparation of the route, and the issues concerning safety, health, and attracting sponsors are being solved.

"Tour of Almaty" is the first professional cycling race under the auspices of the UCI (Union Cycliste Internationale), which will take place on the territory of the CIS. Memorandum of conducting a one-day road race "Tour of Almaty" was signed by the UCI and Cycling Federation of Kazakhstan in February this year

The initiative to conduct a cycle tour of the highest international level in our country belongs to Akim of Almaty A.Esimov and Olympic champion A.Vinokurov.
