Almaty's 2022 Olympic bid faces strong competition from Beijing

As for another contender Oslo, more than half of Norwegians are against the Government's decision to host the Winter Olympics as well. Despite public discontent, the Norwegian authorities have not shelved their plans to host the Olympiad yet and are to provide the IOC with financial guarantees in September 2014 in order to host the high-profile event. The race is now a five-horse one between Almaty (Kazakhstan), Beijing (China), Krakow (Poland), Lviv (Ukraine), and Oslo (Norway) where Beijing is the strongest competition for the Kazakh city.
