Almaty Mayor inspects construction of Universiade-2017 facilties

In particular, he familiarized himself with the construction of two ice arenas with the capacity of 3000 and 12 000 spectators, as well as Athletic village for 5000 people, the press office of the Mayor reported. At the ice arena for 12 thousand seats earthworks are underway. Base concrete foundation connecting galleries rink and the main columns has been filled. Excavation and backfilling have being made at the second facility. In Athletic village started work on site preparation. The beginning of construction works at these facilities was scheduled for the first quarter of 2014, and completion - for July 2016. The village will include dormitories for 5,000 athletes, service facilities, shops, food shops, and internet cafes. There will be also built a library, hairdressers, fitness centers, laundry, offices, etc. Amaty Mayor said that all sports facilities under construction must strictly conform to international standards including the standards of the Fédération internationale du sport universitaire (FISU) and the IOC.
