Almaty located in the center of New Silk Road - U.S. Consul General

The Conference has been organized by the Kazakh National University named after Al-Farabi, the U.S. Consulate General in Almaty and Information Office of the United Nations in Kazakhstan. The event is aimed at strengthening cooperation in the field of higher education between the countries of Central and South Asia, as well as establishing close links between the student communities in the region. The Conference's participants discuss security issues in the region, freedom of speech and religion, the problem of international drug trafficking, violence against women, etc. U.S. Consul General Theresa Grenchik noted that ‘Almaty is the financial and cultural capital of Kazakhstan, Central Asia's economic powerhouse and it is located in the center of "New Silk Road". In addition, the city plays an important role in trade between the countries of Central and South Asia. In general, the goal of the conference is rapprochement between countries in the region of "New Silk Road". The conference will conclude on May 3.
