ALMATY. KAZINFORM "Almaty has every chance to turn into the real financial centre of the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU)," associate professor of the Kazakh-British Technical University, doctor of economics Nurlan Nurseit said.

"It will have a favorable impact on the country's economy if Almaty becomes the EEU financial centre. However, it is necessary to evaluate the real opportunities of the city. The world practice shows that financial centres are formed by market forces at the crossing points boasting dynamic trading and investment activities or occupying advantageous geographic positions, for example Hong Kong, New York or London," the expert noted. "The EEU member states should also strengthen competitive ability of the non-oil and gas sector to significantly increase sales with China or India. It will also raise the role of Almaty as a financial centre of the Eurasian region," he added.
