Almaty felt vertical earthquake aftershock, scientist
People in Almaty felt a vertical earthquake aftershock today, Kazinform News Agency quotes scientist, professor of the Seismology Institute Alkuat Nurmagambetov as saying.
A quake jolted on the border of Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan on March 4 at 11:20 am. People in Almaty felt 5M tremors.
He said the quake struck this time closer to Almaty as compared to the quake registered on January 23. It was centered 31km south of Almaty, it is too close. It poses a threat to the city. The recent aftershock measuring 2 was recorded in the territory of China and posed no hazard to the city.
The scientist said the strong quake was centered on the Kazakh-Kyrgyz border between the Zailiski Alatau and Kungei Alatau. Today Almaty felt stronger tremors than in January since the quake epicenter was closer to the city.
