Almaty cancer center performs 26 new types of minimally invasive surgeries

ALMATY. KAZINFORM - Twenty-six new types of minimally invasive surgeries are now performed in the Almaty cancer center. The doctors of the center began performing these surgeries in 2014, chief doctor of the center, oncologist Dilyara Kaidarova informed at a media briefing dedicated to the World Cancer Day.

"We now perform surgeries 26 new types of minimally invasive surgeries, including intestinal cancer, stomach cancer and lung cancer surgeries. A lot of breast-conserving surgeries are performed in our center as well. We train our specialists in Italy to perform corrective and plastic surgeries," D.Kaidarova told. According to her, six free screening programs were launched in the cancer center in 2012. They are aimed at solution of tasks of the program on cancer care improvement. "Cancer is treatable at early stage. However, it is necessary to undertake periodic screening in order to detect cancer at the early stage. The government creates necessary conditions for it: it allocates money, trains specialists. Now, we expect people to come and undertake screening. Every policlinic has a screening room where people can undertake cancer screening free of charge," the doctor told. As she also noted, palliative care for cancer patients was introduced in 2014 as well. "Not all families want to leave their family members in hospitals, therefore, we now have crews of specialists who render medical aid at home," the doctor resumed.
