Abai region investment pool doubles to KZT 4.4 trillion — Governor

Berik Uali, Governor of the Abai region, briefed President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev on the region's 2025 socio-economic development and first-quarter indicators, Qazinform News Agency reports, citing the Akorda press service.

Berik Uali reported that the region's gross regional product reached 3.9 trillion tenge last year. In January-April this year, the short-term economic indicator stood at 103.8%. Investment grew by 19.4%, with positive dynamics observed in industry, manufacturing, agriculture, construction, and transport.

The governor also briefed the Head of State on investment attraction efforts. Since last year, the number of projects in the overall investment pool has increased from 29 to 112, with total attracted investment rising from 2.2 trillion to KZT 4.4 trillion. Major investment projects include the construction of the Ayagoz–Bakhty railway line, valued at KZT 577.5 billion. In Semey, construction continues on two major projects: a thermal power plant (KZT 714 billion in investments) and a mining and processing plant (KZT 255 billion).

Uali also reported on plans to establish a special economic zone in the regional center, which is to host production projects worth KZT 400 billion and create 2,500 new jobs. Proposals for three major projects have already been submitted.

He also provided information on the development of the Alakol Lake tourist zone. This year, KZT 15.4 billion has been allocated for coastal infrastructure modernization, of which KZT 11.6 billion will come from the Special State Fund to extend power grids and reconstruct the airport terminal in Urzhar.

In addition, Governor Uali presented projects launched as part of engineering infrastructure modernization, including upgrades to water supply, sewerage, and heating networks, the completion of a new bridge in Semey, and the development of housing and road infrastructure.

President Tokayev gave specific instructions aimed at boosting investment, diversifying the economy, modernizing infrastructure, and improving residents' quality of life. The Head of State also stressed the need to hold the "Abaiga Qurmet" (Honoring Abai) event at a proper level.
