800 dying of HIV in Almaty

ALMATY. KAZINFORM "About 800 people are dying of HIV virus in the largest city of Kazakhstan," head of the organizational and methodological centre for AIDS prevention and control of Almaty Gulnara Nurgaliyeva said at the forum held to remember those who had died of AIDS.

The event is purposed to urge the public to avoid stigma and discrimination against persons living with HIV /AIDS. 3,871 people with HIV/AIDS have been recorded in Almaty since the beginning of the epidemic. Above 1,030 have already died. There are about 20,000 people living with HIV/AIDS in Kazakhstan, meanwhile about 42 mln are estimated to be living with HIV the worldwide.
