74-year-old traveler from Kazakhstan reaches Beijing on foot

In early August, Sarssenbay Kotyrashov embarked on an extraordinary  walking journey from Kazakhstan to China. Today, the famous traveler has already walked thousands of kilometers and reached Beijing, Kazinform News Agency reports.

The aksakal (white-beard old man) began his trip from the East Kazakhstan region. He walked through Altai and Mongolia, and at the end of September, he crossed the Mongolian-Chinese border to  reach Beijing in early October.

While traveling, Sarssenbay Kotyrashov talks about the history and culture of Kazakhstan with the locals, and also explores the culture and traditions of the countries he visits.

In 2022, Sarssenbay Kotyrashov walked 8,000 kilometers across Kazakhstan just in six months. Last year, he walked from Atyrau to Istanbul.

“I wish peace to the entire world,” says the aksakal, and adds he is planning a new, fourth walking tour next year. He plans to reach North America and walk from the Atlantic coast to the Pacific coast.

The famous Kazakh traveler Sarssenbay Kotyrashov's round-the-world walking trip began on August 2, 2023. The aksakal plans to go on foot along the route: Kazakhstan - Russia - Georgia - Türkiye - Bulgaria - Serbia - Hungary - Austria - Germany - France – U.S. - China - Mongolia - Russia - Kazakhstan.
