XDS Astana's Max Kanter finishes second in sprint at Clasica de Almeria
The Spanish one-day race Clasica de Almeria, held today in Roquetas de Mar, ended in a mass sprint, as expected. The riders of XDS Astana Team did an excellent job in the final, with Lev Gonov and Gleb Syritsa positioning Max Kanter well for the sprint, Kazinform News Agency cites the Team's press service.
Kanter launched his sprint 150 meters before the finish, but just before the line, Belgian Milan Fretin managed to overtake him. As a result, the XDS Astana Team rider took second place on the podium.
“I want to thank my team for the incredible work and support throughout the race. It was amazing! The race finale was very intense and tricky due to the large number of roundabouts. The fight for position was fierce in the last 30 kilometers, so the team's role was crucial. I tried to stay calm and prepare for the final sprint. We had a good lead-out, but I started my sprint from a little farther back than I wanted. I was just slightly short of victory. However, we can be happy with today's result. I believe that if we keep going like this, staying united in every race, the victory will come soon. Over these weeks, the whole team has been giving 100%, always at the front and fighting. So, the win is close”, said Max Kanter.
Earlier XDS Astana Team announced its roster for the next UCI WorldTour event - the seventh edition of the UAE Tour, scheduled for February 17-23.
