US-Iran talks in Switzerland postponed
The first round of negotiations on implementing a newly signed memorandum of understanding between the United States and Iran, which was scheduled to take place in Switzerland on Friday, has been postponed, Qazinform News Agency reports.
According to Switzerland's Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA), the talks were due to be held on June 19 at the Bürgenstock resort in the canton of Nidwalden.
"Peace and security in the Middle East are a priority of Swiss foreign policy. Switzerland welcomes the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between the US and Iran. The first negotiations on the implementation of the agreement were due to take place on Friday, 19 June 2026, at the Bürgenstock in the canton of Nidwalden. These have been postponed for the time being," the FDFA said in a statement.
Swiss authorities did not disclose the reasons for the postponement or announce a new date for the meeting.
Switzerland has long played a mediating role between Washington and Tehran and remains committed to supporting diplomatic efforts aimed at reducing tensions in the region.
The Bürgenstock resort has previously hosted several high-level international meetings, including the Summit on Peace in Ukraine in June 2024.
Earlier, Qazinform News Agency reported that U.S. forces had been enforcing maritime restrictions around Iran and monitoring vessel traffic in the region.
