UNICEF warns 1.1 bln children face multiple climate hazards
A new UNICEF Children’s Climate Risk Report 2026 reveals that nearly half of the world’s children, about 1.1 billion, are exposed to at least three overlapping climate threats, Qazinform News Agency cites WAM.
Among the most common risks are drought, extreme heat above 35°C, and recurring heatwaves.
Almost every child worldwide faces at least one climate hazard.
Children are more vulnerable since their bodies overheat faster, sweat less efficiently, breathe more quickly, and require more food and water relative to body weight.
According to the report, children are exposed to hazards such as drought, extreme heat, wildfires, heatwaves, coastal floods, riverine floods, sand and dust storms, and tropical storms.
