UNGA adopts resolution on establishment of UN Regional SDGs Center in Almaty
The UN General Assembly adopted today by consensus a Kazakhstan-led resolution calling for the establishment of the UN Regional Sustainable Development Goals Center for Central Asia and Afghanistan in Almaty, with support from 152 countries, Akorda reports.
It’s a significant foreign policy success for Kazakhstan. The Head of State expressed gratitude to all partner states for supporting the Kazakhstani initiative. The President believes that the UN Regional SDGs Center will become a key platform to coordinate international efforts in the region, wrote Ruslan Zheldibay, Press-Secretary and Advisor to the Kazakh President, on his Telegram channel.
Earlier, UN Resident Coordinator Stephen O'Malley emphasized the organization's strong partnership with Kazakhstan on the sidelines of a Feb.26 UN anniversary panel in Astana.
