Two die in explosion at Kazzinc Plant in Ust-Kamenogorsk
Two people were killed and another five were injured following today's incident at the metallurgical site of Kazzinc in Ust-Kamenogorsk, Qazinform News Agency reports.
According to the company’s press service, the incident occurred on the morning of May 5 during production operations.
“During the cleaning of a smoke exhauster, an explosion occurred, followed by a fire and partial structural collapse. As a result, two people were killed and five others were injured. All necessary medical assistance is being provided to the injured,” the company said.
Emergency services remain at the scene, working to eliminate the incident consequences. A special commission has been established to investigate the cause and circumstances of the explosion.
Kazzinc expressed condolences to the families of the victims and stated its readiness to support those affected.
“The families of those deceased and injured will receive the necessary assistance, including financial and psychological support,” the press service added.
At the same time, an assessment of the potential environmental impact is underway.
“Preliminary data indicate a localized dust release without exceeding permissible limits and without the emission of hazardous pollutants,” the company specified.
Earlier, it was reported that Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov has taken personal control of the situation following the explosion at the Kazzinc plant in Ust-Kamenogorsk.
