Trump says no tolls will be imposed in Strait of Hormuz during 60-day ceasefire

U.S. President Donald Trump said ships transiting the Strait of Hormuz will not face tolls during a 60-day ceasefire period, while warning that the United States could impose charges if negotiations with Iran fail to produce a final agreement, Qazinform News Agency reports.

In a post on Truth Social on Saturday, Trump said there would be “NO TOLLS” in the strategic waterway during the 60-day period and afterward, unless Washington decides to levy them should talks collapse. He said any future U.S. tolls would serve as reimbursement for America’s role as the “Guardian Angel” of Middle Eastern countries.

There will be NO TOLLS in the Hormuz Strait for 60 days during the Cease Fire Period, and there will be NO TOLLS after the 60 day period has expired, Trump wrote on his social media platform Truth Social.

The comments come as the United States and Iran head to Switzerland for a new round of negotiations aimed at reaching a final agreement on outstanding issues between them, including Iran's nuclear program, the lifting of U.S. sanctions and the permanent reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.

To note, Iran's main military command Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters announced Saturday the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, citing U.S. "breach" of the newly-signed peace memorandum of understanding (MoU) and Israel's ceasefire "violations" in southern Lebanon,
