Türkiye’s industry output slides in March

Türkiye’s industrial production declined in March, driven mainly by weaker manufacturing and mining activity, according to data released Friday by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat), Qazinform News Agency cites Anadolu.

Industrial output dropped 1.1 percent compared with the same month last year, while the industrial production index also slipped 0.8 percent from February.

Among industrial subsectors, mining and quarrying recorded the steepest annual decline, falling 5.6 percent year-on-year in March. Manufacturing output, which makes up the largest share of the index, decreased 1.3 percent compared with a year earlier.

In contrast, the electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply sector showed growth, rising 5.8 percent annually and helping offset part of the broader downturn.

On a monthly basis, mining and quarrying output fell 1.6 percent, while manufacturing production declined 1.1 percent from February. Meanwhile, the electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply index increased 3.9 percent month-on-month.
