Tokayev briefed on transfer of 3.4 trillion tenge worth assets to competitive environment
The Head of State, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, met with Marat Omarov, Chairman of the Agency for the Protection and Development of Competition, on Wednesday, Qazinform News Agency cites Akorda.
Chairman Omarov briefed Kassym-Jomart Tokayev on the implantation of the decree on measures to liberalize the economy. He confirmed that systematic efforts are underway to reduce the quasi-state sector and stimulate market competition.
With the direct participation of the National Privatization Office, the 2026-2030 Optimization Plan for Quasi-Public Sector Entities and State-Owned Properties was approved. Assets generating a combined revenue of 3.4 trillion tenge will be transitioned into the competitive environment.
Particular focus was placed on the results of the public procurement reform.
By undertaking these measures, the reliance on single-source procurement dropped from 39 percent to 24 percent, pushing competitive procurement volumes to 6.2-8.1 trillion tenge.
Omarov briefed on measures to eliminate barriers preventing businesses from entering commodity markets, eliminate unproductive middlemen in key markets, and develop new approaches to regulating the digital economy.
He also reported on the ongoing work on the sixth package of legislative amendments for competition protection and development.
The draft law provides for the implementation of seven systemic areas aimed at improving the efficiency of competition policy, strengthening control in monopolized markets, improving antitrust regulation, and further reducing state participation in the economy.
Following the meeting, Head of State Kassym-Jomart Tokayev set a number of instructions.
