President Tokayev chairs Security Council meeting on space sector development

On June 16, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev chaired a meeting of the Security Council of the Republic of Kazakhstan, during which Government members presented reports on the current state of the space sector, ongoing projects, and development prospects, Qazinform News Agency reports, citing the Akorda press service.

In his speech, the Head of State emphasized the strategic importance of the space industry, paying special attention to ensuring the sustainable operation of satellite communications and space infrastructure.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Development Zhaslan Madiyev presented information on key space industry projects aimed at developing satellite systems, improving space infrastructure, and introducing applied solutions based on space data to benefit the economy and public administration.

Kassym-Jomart Tokayev noted that the global space sector is undergoing fundamental changes. He said the days when space was the preserve of a "closed club" of great powers are over. Today, private companies are stepping in, actively developing applied areas such as communications, broadcasting, navigation, space monitoring, scientific research, and internet access.

Special focus was placed on advancing space science. The need for continued support for scientific research, including astrophysics, was noted. The Baiterek project was positively assessed as an important step in strengthening national technological and engineering potential.

The Head of State also addressed prospects for international cooperation, emphasizing the need to develop a strategic partnership with the Russian Federation and other foreign partners. He also underlined the importance of improving the social and living conditions of citizens living in Baikonur and the surrounding areas.

Following the meeting, the Government received specific instructions to modernize the space sector and better harness its potential for the country's benefit.
