Polling stations abroad closed, Kazakh Foreign Ministry

The Kazakh Foreign Ministry announced that voting ended at nine polling stations abroad for casting ballots in the nationwide referendum on the construction of a nuclear power plant in Kazakhstan, Kazinform News Agency reports.

Polling places in South Korea, Japan, China, Singapore, Malaysia, Mongolia, Vietnam, Indonesia and Thailand closed, it said in a statement.

As earlier reported, the nationwide referendum on the construction of a nuclear power plant started in Kazakhstan today, October 6. As of 10:00 am some 17.79% or 2,178,593 Kazakhstanis voted in the referendum. As of 12:00 the number of voters reached 39.23%. 6,339,428 cast their votes as of 02:00 pm.

Polling stations in Seoul and Tokyo were the first to open at 07:00 am local time.

74 polling places were established in 59 countries for 12,307 voters in total.
