PM: Kazakhstan must gain maximum economic benefit from NPP construction
Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov has held a working meeting to review the implementation of the tasks set by the President at the Government’s Jan 28 extended meeting regarding the development of the country’s nuclear cluster, Kazinform News Agency reports citing primeminister.kz.
The participants heard a report about the forecast of electrical power balance for a period of 2025-2031.
Due to constantly growing consumption of electrical power, energy authorities plan to commission new capacities up to 26.5GW by 2035, including through the modernization of the existing power plants at the expense of private investors.
Minister of Energy Almasadam Satkaliyev reported on the results of the talks held with promising suppliers on the construction of the first nuclear power plant.
The Prime Minister emphasized that the country should gain maximum economic benefit from the nuclear power plant construction. He emphasized the need to focus on increasing domestic value, localization of production and transfer of technologies.
The meeting also discussed the prospects for the development of nuclear science and training programs for nuclear sector professionals.
