New maternity hospital to be built in Almaty

A new modern maternity hospital will be built in Almaty instead of the Maternity Hospital No. 2 which is set to be demolished, Kazinform News Agency reports.

This was reported by the akim (mayor) of Almaty, Yerbolat Dossayev, during a meeting with residents of the Medeu district.

“We plan to complete the design documentation for the new maternity hospital building, replacing the old one, by August of this year,” said Dossayev.

Maternity Hospital No. 2, built in 1937, is outdated and no longer meets modern standards.

It has been specified that the design of the new building will be completed by June 2025, with the expert review expected to follow. The construction is planned to be finished by the end of 2026.

Additionally, construction and renovation of the city's Specialized Children's Home No. 2 is expected to be finished by March 2025. This project is aimed at providing residents with access to quality medical services. In May 2024, one billion tenge was allocated, and work has already commenced.

In June, as part of the ambulance system upgrade, the construction of a new building for ambulance substation No. 4 will be completed, along with the demolition of the old one.

Moreover, in August, the design documentation for a new polyclinic with 500 visits per shift in the Duman microdistrict will be finalized, and the reconstruction of the Alatau polyclinic will also begin.

According to Dossayev, funding for the modernization of healthcare infrastructure in Almaty will increase 2.6 times to 69.4 billion tenge in 2025.

As reported earlier, the Austrian company is to build a hospital in Kyrgyzstan.
