Moment of silence to honor victims of nuclear tests to be held August 29
ASTANA. August 26. KAZINFORM A moment of silence in honor of the victims of nuclear tests around the world will be held on Thursday (August 29).
It has been announced by official spokesperson of the Central Communications Service under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Altai Abibullayev at a weekly briefing on Monday.
According to Mr. Abibullayev, the minute of silence will be held in all countries across the globe at 11:05 a.m. local time.
"This week Kazakhstan and the world community will celebrate an important date - the 29th of August - the International Day against Nuclear Tests. On August 29, 1991, President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev decreed to shut down the Semipalatinsk Nuclear Test Site," noted A. Abibullayev.
He also reminded that the UN unanimously supported Kazakhstan's initiative to announce the 29th of August the International Day against Nuclear Tests.
