Majilis ratifies Treaty on Allied Relations between Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan
The deputies of the Majilis approved the draft law On ratification of the Treaty on Allied Relations between Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, Kazinform News Agency reports.
The Treaty on Allied Relations between Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan was concluded in Tashkent on December 22, 2022.
The treaty is purposed to bring Kazakhstan-Uzbekistan relations to a new level of collaboration and bilateral cooperation and contribute to further strengthening of independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity and sustainable economic development of the two countries.
According to the international affairs, defense and security committee, the parties build and develop long-term allied relations based on multilateral cooperation, confidence, equality and mutual consideration of national interests, mutual respect of independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity and inviolability of national borders and fulfillment in good faith of reciprocal obligations.
Under the treaty, the parties acknowledge their obligations not to take part in any blocs or unions and abstain from participating in any actions directed against the other Party.
Following Article 4 of the treaty, the parties established the Supreme Interstate Council under the chairmanship of the Heads of State to further strengthen Kazakhstan-Uzbekistan multilateral cooperation in the spirit of fraternity, alliance and strategic partnership. The Supreme Interstate Council defines strategic areas for the development of allied relations and considers the pressing issues of common interest.
The treaty provides for cooperation in foreign policy, defense and security, disarmament and nonproliferation of all weapons of mass destruction, strengthening peace and accord in the region, counteraction to new security challenges and threats, including international terrorism, religious extremism and separatism, transnational organized crime, cybercrime, illicit migration, human trafficking, arms trafficking, illicit traffic in narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, and stake out the positions on the key international issues and matters of common interest.
The parties contribute to widening ties between the parliaments, political parties and public organizations of Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, settlement of regional conflicts peacefully and through negotiations based on generally recognized rules of international law, and primarily, observation and maintenance of sovereignty, territorial integrity and inviolability of national borders, and strengthening the core role of the UN.
Besides, the treaty stipulates provisions for the rational use of transborder water resources, exploitation of waterworks, and introduction of water-efficient processes.
Under Article 23 the parties should settle emergent controversies through negotiations and consultations.
As earlier reported, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev has signed the law ratifying the Treaty on Allied Relations with Kazakhstan.
