The release commemorates the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), which has become one of the largest international forums in Eurasia over the past quarter.

The coin was introduced into circulation by the National Bank of the Kyrgyz Republic on May 11, 2026. It serves not only as a commemorative numismatic piece but also as a symbol of Kyrgyzstan’s participation in strengthening regional cooperation and fostering ties among Eurasian countries.

The anniversary issue is particularly significant as the Kyrgyz Republic assumes the SCO Presidency for 2025–2026. This role represents both a diplomatic responsibility and an opportunity to more actively promote regional initiatives, transport and logistics projects, and economic cooperation in Central Asia.

The coin's design reflects the idea of unity and cooperation among the SCO member states. The obverse features the official emblem of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and the flags of the member states. Around the rim is the inscription in Kyrgyz and Russian.

Earlier, it was reported that Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar held a high-level meeting on preparations for the country’s upcoming chairmanship of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.
