Kazakhstan’s Uralsk and China’s Jinzhou establish sister-city relations

During an international conference in Shenyang, West Kazakhstan and China’s Liaoning province signed an agreement to strengthen cooperation, Qazinform News Agency reports citing the regional administration (akimat).

The West Kazakhstan delegation attended a large forum that gathered representatives from 50 countries and showcased Liaoning’s industrial potential.

Governor Nariman Turegaliyev addressed the plenary session as part of the conference and outlined proposals to further strengthen interregional cooperation.

He said West Kazakhstan region is a key transit hub for China’s Belt and Road Initiative put forward by President Xi Jinping in Astana.

He noted Chinese companies are already building methanol and cement plants, as well as gas turbine and wind power stations in the region.

In 2025, trade turnover between West Kazakhstan and China grew 1.5 times, reaching 175 million US dollars.

He expressed readiness to further deepen investment cooperation with Liaoning province in innovation, artificial intelligence, and manufacturing.

Liaoning province already maintains sister-city ties with 96 cities worldwide, and the city of Uralsk has now joined this network, strengthening Kazakhstan–China regional collaboration. The agreement provides for the development of constant cooperation in trade and economic, scientific and technological, cultural and sports and other spheres.

Earlier, Qazinform News Agency reported that China's Shenzhen’s experience will help shape Kazakhstan’s new megacity.
