He stressed it will help meet growing demand for energy and raise the reliability of the unified electric energy system.

Earlier, the Kazakh  Government approved the 2026–2030 coal generation development national project focusing on construction, modernization, and expansion of coal power plants.

Rising consumption from industrial growth and the digital economy requires reliable base generation.

He stressed many existing plants suffer from equipment wear. It is key to reduce accidents, improve efficiency, and extend safe operation.

Besides, the main goal is to ensure balance between energy security, reliability, and ecological requirements.

He emphasized the project provides for the development of sustainable financial mechanisms, including long-term financing and cost-reduction tools.

The Minister noted the new generation projects will be synchronized with coal mining, transport, and logistics to ensure a stable fuel base.

Notably, a separate coal industry development plan is being drafted to complement the national project, serving as a practical tool for sector growth.

It should be noted, Kazakhstan has coal reserves sufficient for over 300 years.
