Kazakhstan takes part in the UNESCO General Conference

ASTANA. November 16. KAZINFORM - Paris is hosting (5-20 November) the 37 session of the General Conference of UNESCO with 195 member states of the organization, says the press service of the Foreign Ministry.

Among the forum's central issues are the definition of the main activities of UNESCO, adoption of 4-year program and budget (2014 - 2017), and the approval of the Medium-term strategy of the organization until 2021.

This week at the plenary session there was the head of the Kazakh delegation, chairman of the National Commission for UNESCO and ISESCO, akim of Astana Imangali Tasmagambetov.

Mr.Tasmagambetov noted the main results of our country being the part of the Executive Board of UNESCO from 2009 to 2013. As a member of this important body, Kazakhstan along with other countries was active for preparation of UNESCO's major program aimed at implementing the priorities and the proposed by CEO of the reforms. One of the important outcomes of the council was the nomination of our country's initiative to proclaim the International Decade for the Rapprochement of Cultures (2013 - 2022), supported by UNESCO Member States, and later the UN General Asssembly.

Within the session Imangali Tasmagambetov met with Director General of UNESCO Irina Bokova. Chairman of the National Commission of the Republic of Kazakhstan for UNESCO congratulated Irina Bokova on her next four-year period of the UNESCO leadership, and expressed support for her efforts to advance the process of major reforms in the organization, overcoming difficulties along the way.

Bokova praised Kazakhstan's contribution to the organization, including through participation in a number of its committees, the nomination of important global initiatives aimed at promoting intercultural and inter-religious dialogue, and the development of universal education.
