Kazakhstan seeks to construct over 5,000km of new railway lines
Development of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR) is a key priority for Kazakhstan, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev stated, Kazinform News Agency correspondent reports.
The Kazakh leader noted that the present geological situation requires from Kazakhstan to enhance its stand as a key Eurasian transit hub.
Kazakhstan seeks to reconstruct 11,000 milometers of old railways and to construct over 5,000 kilometers of new railway lines. Development of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route is a key priority, which will provide trade connectivity between Europe and Asia with the handling capacity of 10 million tons of cargo a year, said Tokayev.
According to him, Kazakhstan attaches priority significance to investments in the infrastructure of the Middle Corridor, including construction of new cargo terminals and production of joint transport ships.
Comprehensive reconstruction of the country’s road network is vital for our development. Around 12,000 kilometers of road have been constructed and repaired this year alone, added President Tokayev during the 36th plenary meeting of the Foreign Investors' Council (FIC) in Astana.
Earlier it was reported that the 36th plenary meeting of the Foreign Investors' Council (FIC) under the President of Kazakhstan kicked off at the Palace of Independence in the Kazakh capital of Astana.
Established in 1998, the Foreign Investors' Council provides direct dialogue between the Kazakh government and foreign investors for efficient settlement of problematic issues related to their investment activity in the country and a better investment climate in Kazakhstan.
