Kazakhstan, Russia discuss interparliamentary coop

Kazakh Majilis Speaker Yerlan Koshanov met with Chairman of the Russian State Duma Vyacheslav Volodin and Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of Russia Valentina Matvienko during his working visit to Russia, Kazinform News Agency cites the press service of the lower chamber of the Kazakh parliament.

During his visit, Koshanov discussed the issues of bilateral cooperation with Vyacheslav Volodin. He stressed that Russia was and always is a reliable partner and good neighbor for Kazakhstan.

Our countries have established reliable political dialogue, close economic and cultural and humanitarian ties, solid legal framework. These relations only strengthen with each year. Our leaders Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and Vladimir Putin have taken them to a new development level, said the Majilis speaker.

Koshanov noted that the Majilis attaches great attention to further strengthen interaction with the State Duma and invited Vyacheslav Volodin to pay an official visit to Kazakhstan.

The two countries’ parliamentarians actively cooperation within the friendship groups as well as within different international and regional organizations. Experiences in law-making are being shared.

The Kazakh Majilis chairman stressed that Kazakhstan and Russia share the longest border in the world and that eight Kazakh regions share borders with 12 Russian regions. Around 70% of the total Kazakh-Russian trade turnover falls at the cross-regional and border trade.

The Majilis speaker went on to say that there are six branches of Russian universities operating in Kazakhstan.

Over the past years, there has been high demand for specialists in the engineering and technical sphere in our country. Therefore, the Head of State instructed to open branches of leading foreign universities in technical specialties. To this end, we’re keen on working with the top Russian universities, said Koshanov.

Within the official visit, Kazakh Majilis Speaker Koshanov held a meeting with Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of Russia Valentina Matvienko. During the meeting, Koshanov briefed his colleague about the key transformations in Kazakhstan initiated by the Head of State.

The country adopted a number of key amendments to its laws. Thew law ‘The National Fund for Children’ as among the first ones the Majilis adopted… Work is ongoing on the new budget, tax, water, construction codes, said Koshanov.

The Majilis speaker also wished the Russian senators success in the preparation and holding of the 4th Eurasian Women’s Forum to take place this fall in St. Petersburg.

For her part, Matvienko noted that the parliaments of Kazakhstan and Russia are connected with strong friendship and mutual understanding regarding all issues. She expressed support for legislative initiatives of Kazakhstani deputies and offered to enhance the exchange of experiences in this direction.

As part of his working part to Russia, Majilis Speaker Koshanov is to visit Kazan city, where he will meet Tatar Head Rustam Minnikhanov and Chairman of the State Council of Tatarstan Farid Mukhametshin.
