Kazakhstan on track for $23,000 GDP per capita by 2031 — IMF

Kazakhstan may move up in the global rankings for GDP per capita from 71st to 68th spot by 2031, Qazinform News Agency reports.

This forecast is set out in the International Monetary Fund’s April outlook.

The Fund’s data shows that Kazakhstan’s GDP per capita is projected to reach $17,500 in 2026. At this level, the country sits between the Seychelles ($17,670) and Serbia ($17,250).

Among the countries in the region, Russia ranks 69th with $18,530, China 78th with $14,870, Uzbekistan 131st with $4,660, and Kyrgyzstan 142nd with $3,200.

The IMF forecasts that by 2031, Kazakhstan’s GDP per capita will rise to $23,170. In the global ranking, the country could place between Oman ($23,310) and Türkiye ( $22,950).

Meanwhile, Uzbekistan is expected to rise to 121st place with $7,060, China will improve its position to 74th place with $19,880, Kyrgyzstan will stay in 142nd place with $3,970, and Russia may drop to 78th place with $18,480.

Liechtenstein remains the leader in the global ranking, with a current GDP per capita of $226,810. This is nearly 13 times higher than Kazakhstan’s level. The lowest figure is recorded in Yemen — $383.75 per person.

According to the Fund’s estimates, by 2031 Liechtenstein will retain first place with $259,930, while Yemen will remain in last place with $313.75.

The IMF forecasts that in five years, GDP per capita in Kazakhstan can jump by 32.4%. In terms of growth rates, the country ranks 43rd in the world. In absolute terms, the increase will amount to $5,670 per person, which corresponds to 59th place among the world’s nations.
