Kazakhstan has chosen the path of non-military nuclear power - Armen Sarkissian
ASTANA. October 11. KAZINFORM Kazakhstan has chosen the path of non-military nuclear power, Armen Sarkissian, President of Eurasian House International, UK, said at the 10th conference of Eurasian Media Forum held in Astana.
"Kazakhstan voluntarily renounced nuclear weapons, returned it to Russia and became absolutely neutral country in this respect. This initiative is very important, and I am sure that it will be supported not only in the framework of the international atomic agency, but in a much broader framework," Sarkissian stated.
He noted that Kazakhstan produces a third of the world's uranium and put forward the initiative to establish the International Nuclear Fuel Bank under IAEA auspices. This allows the countries wishing to use nuclear energy, acquire fuel through the IAEA. In this case, all the nuclear fuel remains under the control of the Agency.
