Kazakhstan handled unprecedented spring floods without external assistance – Tokayev

Head of State Kassym-Jomart Tokayev addressed a press briefing focusing among other things on the the conclusions made after the unprecedented spring floods in Kazakhstan, Kazinform News Agency correspondent reports.

“Conclusions are being made, but note that such natural disasters have affected almost the entire planet. Recently, there were major floods in Central Europe, before that a hurricane hit the U.S., and there was a very large hurricane in Vietnam. Such natural disasters are difficult to predict, but it is crucial to be prepared for them and take preventive measures. Therefore, measures have been taken. Bear in mind that Kazakhstan managed to handle this problem, these natural disasters, without external assistance,” said Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.

The President went on to note that both financial and human resources had been mobilized.

“Thanks to the active work of the Government and akims, we were able to overcome all the consequences. Those affected by the floods received new housing. I promised that no one would be left behind, and we have mostly fulfilled this task,” said President Tokayev.

Earlier this morning the Head of State cast his vote at the nationwide referendum deciding the fate of the construction of the nuclear power plant in Kazakhstan. Afterwards, President Tokayev held a press briefing for journalists where he assessed the work of the current Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, established the date of the referendum on the NPP for October 6, 2024, and signed a decree on its holding on September 2, 2024. Following this, a press conference was conducted at the Central Election Commission to discuss the national referendum on the construction of a nuclear power facility. Representatives of the Central Election Commission provided an explanation of the referendum's procedures during the conference.

Kassym-Jomart Tokayev stated at the II Republican Forum of Deputies of Maslikhats of all levels held on October 3 that the referendum on the construction of a nuclear power plant would be a turning point, irrespective of the voting results.
