Kazakh rider with autism triumphs at World Cycling Series tournament in Australia

Para-athlete Dastan Ordabay from Astana became a winner of the 2024 Virtus Oceania Road Cycling World Series held in Ballarat, Australia, Kazinform News Agency reports.

Dastan is a member of the National Sports Federation for Persons with Intellectual Disability. He has autism spectrum disorders.

He competed in ii-3 (intellectual disability) Individual Time Trial at a distance of 18.8 kilometers and in the Criterium at a distance of 5.5 kilometers.

The World Cycling Series includes also para-cycling championships which brought together 62 para-athletes from around the world. The UCI Para-cycling classes are open for the athletes with physical, visual, intellectual and hearing disorders.

The event took place from January 2 to 8 in Ballarat city, where Dastan Ordabay, Candidate Master of Sports in Cycling, finished first in the Individual Time Trial and won a gold medal for his home country.

The para-athlete received his Candidate Master of Sports in Cycling title in June 2023, after the VI World VIRTUS Games for Persons with Intellectual Disability held in Vichy, France.

The competition was organized by Australia’s Cycling Federation together with Sport Inclusion Australia and was held under the supervision of UCI.
