Kazakh physicians attended IPPNW World Congress in Hiroshima
ASTANA. August 27. KAZINFORM Delegation of Kazakhstani physicians took part in the International Physicians for Prevention of Nuclear War (IPPNW) World Congress on August 24-26 in the Japanese city of Hiroshima.
Director of JSC "National Research Medical Center" Dr. Abay Baygenzhin led the delegation.
The forum brought together leading experts, researchers from Australia, Britain, Germany, Pakistan, Russia, USA, Finland, Switzerland, South Korea, Japan, and representatives of numerous anti-nuclear and medical NGOs, public foundations and the media.
Speaking as a special guest of the forum, A. Baygenzhin told about the international initiatives of President Nursultan Nazarbayev in strengthening global security, stressing the importance of the UN General Assembly's resolution on the proclamation of August 29 - the date of closure of Semipalatinsk Test Site - as International Day against Nuclear Tests adopted at the initiative of Kazakhstan.
In his speech A. Baygenzhin also emphasized the importance of closer cooperation between Kazakhstan and Japan in the field of non-proliferation and nuclear disarmament, especially as the two peoples learned the "lessons" of the use of nuclear weapons. In particular, the Congress paid special attention to the upcoming International Conference "From nuclear test ban to a world free of nuclear weapons" planned for August 29 in Astana and Semey.
