According to ANTARA, speaking at a national esports gathering in Jakarta, Creative Economy Minister Teuku Riefky Harsya emphasized that gaming has evolved far beyond entertainment, emerging as a significant contributor to economic development and technological innovation.

The minister noted that the government’s strategy focuses on strengthening the entire gaming and esports ecosystem. This includes not only players and commentators, but also community organizations, event organizers, content creators, and a growing range of digital professions tied to the industry.

He highlighted shifting workforce trends, particularly among younger generations, who increasingly seek careers aligned with their interests and digital expertise. This shift, he said, creates favorable conditions for the expansion of creative industries and opens new opportunities for the gaming and esports sector.

Industry experts underscored the rising economic importance of esports, which is generating opportunities across diverse fields such as content production, event management, digital services, technology development, and creative entrepreneurship.

Observers believe the sector’s continued expansion could play a pivotal role in strengthening Indonesia’s creative economy, supporting job creation, and enhancing the country’s reputation as a growing hub for digital talent and innovation in Southeast Asia.

Earlier, it was reported that Saudi Arabia is expanding its role in global gaming with $55 billion EA acquisition.
