The competitions will be held from February 9 to 14, 2027, bringing together the world’s best figure skaters from Asia, the Americas, Africa and Oceania to Astana, “marking a major milestone for both the country and the continued global growth of the sport.”

According to ISU, the decision builds on the growing popularity of figure skating in Kazakhstan following Mikhail Shaidorov’s historic Olympic Men’s Singles Gold medal at the Winter Olympic Games in Milan Cortina in February 2026. His success sparked unprecedented interest in the sport across the country, inspiring a new generation of skaters and fans.

The  Figure Skating Four Continents Championships is expected to become the largest figure skating tournament ever held in Kazakhstan.

The country previously hosted the 2011 Asian Winter Games and 2017 Winter Universiade, both of which included figure skating competitions.

As Qazinform reported, 21-year-old Mikhail Shaidorov made history after winning Kazakhstan’s first-ever gold medal in figure skating for his stunning performance at the 2026 Winter Olympics, and the country’s first gold medal in 32 years.
