Head of State chaired meeting on Almaty development
ASTANA. KAZINFORM President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev chaired a meeting on the results of the Almaty socioeconomic development for 2013 and prospects for the period ahead, the Akorda press service said.
As the President noted the Almaty city development issues will be in the spotlight. "Almaty is the largest megacity of Kazakhstan and it should prosper along with Astana. Such a city is a place for the development of science, innovations and education. Almaty preserves its leading role in the fields of economy, small and medium-sized business, urban planning. With the city population approaching to 1,5 mln people we should think of its ecological cleanness. The number of vehicles increases requiring new approaches to traffic plan," the Head of State said. He also drew attention to the need to adopt the world's best practice in traffic control and compliance with architectural requirements. Besides, the President stressed that Almaty should make a great contribution to the realization of Kazakhstan 2050 Strategy. "The city fulfills the key state programmes in the sphere of industrial and innovation development, employment, housing and public utilities modernization, healthcare and education. Almaty should play the focal role," Nursultan Nazarbayev noted.
