Gas consumption to rise by 1 bln cu m in 2026, Kazakh Energy Ministry

Kazakhstan’s natural gas consumption will increase by 1 billion cubic meters in 2026, Qazinform News Agency quotes Vice Energy Minister Kaiyrkhan Tutkyshbayev as saying.

As of January 1, 2026, the gasification level reached 64.2%. More than 13 million people out of the country’s 20.5 million population now have access to natural gas.

As of January 1, 2025, the gasification level was 62.4%, covering 12.6 million people.

Expansion is being carried out under the General Gasification Scheme of Kazakhstan until 2035.

The plan aims to further extend access to gas, particularly in rural regions.

Rising consumption reflects both the growing number of households connected and the industrial demand.

He added gasification in the country’s west, Zhambyl region as well as the cities of Almaty and Shymkent reached 90%, while gasification rates in Almaty, Kyzylorda, Turkistan, Kostanay and Zhetisu regions range from 60 to 90%.

Gasification in Karaganda, Akmola and Ulytau regions is less than 60%.

This year the republican budget allocates 27.3 billion tenge for the development of the gas pipeline system and to raise gasification up to 64.3% or 32,000 people will get access to piped gas.

Last year gas consumption was 21.6 billion cubic meters; this year, this year consumption is projected to hit 22.6 billion cubic meters.
