First jellyfish museum in U.S. opens in Florida
The first jellyfish museum in the United States opened in Pompano Beach, Florida, offering visitors a chance to see jellyfish from around the world in specially designed aquariums, Qazinform News Agency reports.
The nearly 10,000-square-foot (900-square-meter) facility houses up to 25 jellyfish species, including both cold- and warm-water varieties in a range of sizes, shapes and colors.
The museum was founded by aquarium developers Alex and Yana Yanovsky and features specially designed tanks that allow visitors to observe the creatures up close without diving into the ocean or facing extreme conditions.
Beyond the aquariums, the museum features several zones with immersive 3D projections that create the sensation of being beneath the ocean’s surface. Scientific and educational displays introduce visitors to the diversity of jellyfish and the underwater world.
The museum brings together science, nature and art while showcasing creatures that have inhabited our planet for more than 500 million years.
Earlier, Qazinform News Agency reported that scientists had discovered the first contagious cancer in a freshwater fish.
