European Union-Central Asia security issues discussed in Brussels
BRUSSELS. June 14. KAZINFORM The first round of the high level dialogue concerning security between the European Union and Central Asian countries (Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan) chaired by Deputy Secretary General for Political Affairs Helga Schmid was held in Brussels.
Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan Alexey Volkov, Head of the Mission of Kazakhstan to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization Almaz Khamzayev and experts of concerned authorities took part in the dialogue on behalf of Kazakhstan.
According to the EU Council's message, the dialogue aims to contribute to solution of political issues, security concern, including terrorism, extremism, drug trafficking and risks of chemical, biologic, radiologic and nuclear character.
Besides, issues of stability in the CA region, including Afghanistan, were debated.
During the meeting it was decided to intensify implementation of the Joint Action Plan for Central Asian countries and the UN Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy, to promote the Border Management and Drug Action Programmes in Central Asia (BOMCA/CADAP) and to renew the EU Central Asia Drug Action Plan.
In addition, the sides agreed to enhance the compatibility of the EU programs in Central Asia and Afghanistan in order to improve safety, increase the volume of trade and transit in the border regions, and promote economic development.
