Eight Kazakh boxers to secure World Cup medals in China
Eight members of Kazakhstan’s national boxing team have secured their places on the podium at the Boxing World Cup stage in Guiyang, China, following the conclusion of the quarterfinal round, Qazinform News Agency reports, citing the Kazakh National Olympic Committee.
Seven Kazakh boxers reached the semifinals following their quarterfinal victories. During the evening session on the fifth day of competition, three Kazakh athletes stepped into the ring.
In the women’s 65kg division, Aida Abikeyeva defeated Marie Rosendo of the United States. In the men’s +90kg category, Aibek Oralbay overcame Matthew Williams of Great Britain. Meanwhile, Alua Balkibekova lost to India’s Minakshi Hooda in the 51kg category.
Earlier in the day, Sanzhar Tashkenbay (50kg), Ablaikhan Zhussupov (70kg), and Viktoriya Grafeyeva (60kg) also qualified for the semifinals. They joined Nazym Kyzaibay (54kg) and Dina Islambekova (+80kg), who had already secured their places.
Valeriya Aksenova (80kg) will begin her campaign at the World Cup stage directly from the semifinal round.
Eight Kazakh boxers are now assured of at least bronze medals at the tournament, with the semifinal bouts set for June 20.
Earlier, Qazinform News Agency reported that Kazakhstan had announced its women’s boxing squad for the World Cup stage in China.
