EDB & ESCAP sign Memorandum of Understanding
ALMATY. November 22. KAZINFORM - Eurasian Development Bank (EDB) and the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) today have signed a memorandum of understanding in the city of Almaty.
The document was signed by the Deputy Chairman of the EDB Viktor Bolyasnikov and the Deputy Executive Secretary of the ESCAP Shun-ichi Murat.
"The memorandum lays the foundation for our cooperation and it will further promote regional economic integration, the development of transport infrastructure, energy efficiency, water management and environmental protection as well as the development of partnership in other areas of mutual interest for the benefit of the region. ESCAP enters into a partnership with EDB to promote sustainable and inclusive enhancement in Central Asia", said Shun-ichi Murat.
"I am confident that the signing of the MoU with UNESCAP will enhance collaboration and jointly develop new approaches to the solution of pressing environmental, water, energy, infrastructure problems in Central Asia", said Bolyasnikov.
The signing ceremony took place during the economic forum and the eighth session of the Governing Council of the UN Special Programme for the Economies of Central Asia (SPECA) organized by the ESCAP and the Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) in cooperation with the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
ESCAP is the UN 's regional office for Asia and the Pacific. It consists of 53 members and 9 associate members. The Commission geographically covers the region where live 4.1 billion people or two-thirds of the world's population. This makes ESCAP the largest of the five regional Commissions of the United Nations.
