Disney-themed bullet train debuts on Tokaido Shinkansen
A special Disney-themed bullet train began service Friday on the Tokaido Shinkansen Line between Tokyo and Shin-Osaka stations to celebrate Tokyo DisneySea's 25th anniversary. The limited-time service will run until mid-March next year, Qazinform News Agency learned from Kyodo.
The 16-car N700A train features a "jubilee blue" livery decorated with Disney characters, while seat headrest covers showcase Mickey and Minnie Mouse.
This colaboration between Central Japan Railway Co. and Tokyo DisneySea operator Oriental Land Co., will operate mainly on Hikari and Kodama services.
At a media preview in Hamamatsu, Shizuoka Prefecture, Mickey Mouse appeared in a 25th anniversary costume. JR Central President Shunsuke Niwa expressed hope the passengers will enjoy the journey as a special experience.
Earlier, it was reported that Japan’s Finance Ministry is considering issuing commemorative coins that showcase anime and manga characters alongside national treasures, in a bid to promote Japanese culture and diversify revenue sources.
