Clear-cut security program in CIS
BAKU. September 8. KAZINFORM The Commonwealth of Independent States has developed a clear-cut program to ensure security, Sergei Lebedev, CIS Executive Secretary, told a session of the CIS Council of Interior Ministers on 7 September.
Sergei Lebedev said that in the last 20 years the CIS has worked out a balanced program of joint actions aimed at ensuring national, regional and international security, BelTA reports.
He also remarked that the enhancement of stability and security has been an unchanging priority task in the integration interaction of the Commonwealth of Independent States. Meanwhile, the formation and improvement of cooperation processes in the CIS are in the center of attention of the heads of state. The national security of a specific country directly depends on the level of protection of all the CIS member states, therefore the CIS states should use a consolidated approach and step up cooperation in law enforcement, stressed the CIS Executive Secretary.
Sergei Lebedev said that preparations were in progress of the next session of the CIS Heads of State Council. The session is scheduled to take place in Yalta, Russia on 28 September. Participants of the session are expected to discuss 19 items, including security-related ones. Besides, on 1-2 November Ashgabad will host sessions of the CIS Council of Foreign Ministers and the CIS Heads of State Council. Participants of the sessions are expected to pass several documents relating to cooperation in the area of security.
