CIS Anti-Terrorist Centre urges common transport security standards

Speaking at the meeting that brought together heads of anti-terrorist centres of CIS member-states Novikov noted that prevention of terror acts is an integral part of ensuring transport security.

"The creation of the Common Economic Space and the Eurasian Union by Russia, Kazakhstan and Belarus has already boosted economic activity," he said. "Not only an increase in passenger and cargo traffic in economically attractive conditions has been registered, but also projects for transport infrastructure development emerged and are being implemented," he said.

The problem of prevention, detection and investigation of crimes and terrorist acts threatening transport security are vitally important for CIS member-states and require close attention of the government, businesses and public circles, Novikov said.

"The main tasks security, secret services and law enforcement agencies are facing are to draft common standards for the creation of safe transport infrastructure on the Eurasian space, to ensure stable counter-terrorism protection of the transport industry and to introduce innovative technologies for protection of passengers and cargoes as well as infrastructure facilities, especially in big cities," he said.
