ChatGPT adds smarter answers and unlimited text chats for free users
OpenAI has introduced updates to ChatGPT that improve response quality for paid subscribers while expanding access for free users, including unlimited text conversations with its GPT-5.6 Luna model, Qazinform News Agency correspondent reports.
For Plus and Pro subscribers, the company has updated GPT-5.6 Sol to deliver more focused answers, improve factual reliability, and provide a more consistent experience across both quick responses and deeper reasoning tasks.
According to OpenAI, the upgraded model is designed to answer questions more directly, adapt the level of detail to the user's request, avoid unnecessary formatting, and offer corrections instead of simply agreeing when appropriate.
A new slider, available on web, mobile, and desktop, also allows Plus and Pro users to choose how much reasoning ChatGPT applies to each response, from fast answers to more in-depth analysis for planning, research, writing, coding, and complex decisions.
The company said the model has also become more reliable when handling prompts that depend on dates, numbers, rules, or other factual information. In internal evaluations involving financial, medical, and legal questions, responses containing at least one factual error were about 68% less common with GPT-5.6 Sol and 62% less common with GPT-5.6 Luna compared with GPT-5.5 Instant.
Free users are also receiving expanded access. GPT-5.6 Luna will become the default model for Free and Go users this week, while unlimited text chats and a new Think button for more demanding questions will begin rolling out next week. Limits will still apply to file uploads, image generation, and other tools, and the expanded access remains subject to abuse safeguards.
OpenAI said the updated GPT-5.6 Sol is optimized specifically for everyday conversations in ChatGPT and will not replace the version currently powering Work or Codex.
The company also highlighted new safety measures for younger users. According to OpenAI, the model has been trained to avoid romantic roleplay, age-restricted challenges, and presenting itself as a substitute for real-world relationships. Additional safeguards cover sexual content, eating disorders, body image risks, dangerous activities, graphic violence, and age-restricted goods, while encouraging teenagers to seek support from trusted people when appropriate.
