Astana conference is one more step toward peace and progress - Valentina Matviyenko

ASTANA. August 28. KAZINFORM On August 29, the International Day against Nuclear Tests, Astana will host the international conference "From the nuclear test ban to a world free of nuclear weapons." On the threshold of the forum, Chairman of the organizing committee, Speaker of the Majilis of the Parliament of Kazakhstan Nurlan Nigmatulin met with Chair of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Valentina Matviyenko.

The sides stressed the strategic nature of relations between Kazakhstan and Russia, which determines the level of interaction between the representative bodies. They noted that people's representatives were making a major contribution to the dynamics of bilateral relations.

Speaking about the upcoming conference, both Nigmatulin and Matviyenko emphasized the high public interest in the anti-nuclear forum. More than 200 foreign visitors, including parliamentarians, from more than 70 countries came to Kazakhstan to participate in the conference.

The Majilis Speaker stressed the strategic nature of anti-nuclear initiatives of Head of State Nursultan Nazarbayev, many of which have a crucial role not only for the people of Kazakhstan, but also for the international community as a whole.

Chairwoman of the Federation Council Valentina Matviyenko said that Russia supported the initiative of the President of Kazakhstan and the country's efforts to build a secure future. According to her, the Astana conference is one more step toward peace and progress.

The sides expressed confidence in further development of inter-parliamentary cooperation.
