Andrey Lavrentyev reports to President on Qarmet's operational results in 2025
President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has received the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Qarmet Andrey Lavrentyev, Qazinform News Agency learned from the Akorda press service.
Lavrentyev reported to the Head of State on the preliminary results of the company’s operation in 2025 and main areas of the investment program implementation.
Over two years, steel production increased by 22%, coal concentrate production - by 26%, and iron ore production - by 32%. Production costs were reduced by 28%, and the number of steel grades produced rose from 260 to 350.
He also reported on the implementation of a package of nine major investment projects aimed at building the country's "steel framework" and reducing rolled metal imports. Furthermore, the production of new premium steel grades, including products for the construction of nuclear power plants, is expanding.
Andrey Lavrentyev presented development programs for the coal and mining sectors. Particular emphasis was placed on occupational safety and social initiatives. Qarmet is renovating its own medical and educational facilities. The company and the trade unions have entered into a new collective agreement, aimed at broadening social guarantees for the workforce of 35,000 employees.
He informed the Head of State about the formation of a large metallurgical cluster around Qarmet, which will enable small and medium-sized enterprises to advance raw materials processing. The program was initiated jointly with the Baiterek National Investment Holding.
The company works closely with machine-building enterprises to ensure the use of Kazakhstani steel in manufacturing.
The President commended the work that had been accomplished and backed Qarmet's development plan. He emphasized the need to continue modernizing the enterprise, addressing social issues, improving the environmental situation, and expanding mechanical engineering production.
We also reported that Kassym-Jomart Tokayev met the Governor of the National Bank, Timur Suleimenov, on December 10. The President was reported about the situation in the economy, financial system, and key areas of the monetary policy for January-November 2025, as well as the plans for 2026.
