“The city administration has developed a new program of housing renovation till 2030, which was approved by the Maslikhat on November 29, 2024. The main principle of the new program is housing development by blocks of houses. The owners of dilapidated housing will be provided with housing based on the principle “a room for a room,” said Mayor Yerbolat Dossayev at a briefing today.

There are currently 1,366 dilapidated dwellings in Almaty, accommodating 43,000 residents in 14,430 apartments. 676 of them will undergo modernization under the new housing renovation program.

As per the program, resettlement of the residents and demolition of buildings will be carried out only with a consent from all owners.

Utmost attention will be given to the demolition of reed-frame buildings and houses located along the tectonic faults, which will ensure the city residents’ security.

Earlier, Kazinform reported that in 9 months of 2024, some 1.7 million tourists, including 507,000 international travelers, visited Almaty.
